One of the biggest fears for people wanting to get started (possibly for the first time in their lives) with a Personal Training programme is that they will get thrown in at the deep end by an intimidating Personal Trainer and will find the sessions way too difficult.
Exercise, and the thought of a whole lifestyle change, for some people can be an extremely daunting prospect. The fear of the unknown for many people can prove to be a deciding factor in the decision making process. Unfortunately too many people decide against taking up a fitness programme because they possibly see these intimidating trainers on television who are yelling and screaming at their clients, or they watch the growing number of weight loss reality shows where the clients are being trained 3-4 hours a day, 6 days a week and struggling day in day out while being made an example of.
The reality is that most people who are starting out don’t want to be yelled at while they’re training, plus the majority of the population can’t afford the time or money to train 15-20 hours a week with a Personal Trainer. More importantly though, unless you’re an elite athlete there’s absolutely no reason to train this amount and in the long run you are potentially causing your body more damage than good.
As someone who has been in this exact position and lost a significant amount of weight, Preston & Chorley based Personal Trainer Matt Holland can offer a personal & professional opinion on this. “When I decided that enough was enough and that I was going to lose weight and get healthier I knew that the first & most frightening step was to get past the gym door. I remember being so nervous stood at the entrance and fortunately for me the Personal Trainer in the gym came upto me and guided me through everything from start to finish in a totally empathic way. As she went through things step by step I remember thinking that this was the type of professional I wanted to be”
It’s this fear of the unknown that makes many people turn around for home before they have even gone in to the gym or spoken to a Personal Trainer but also having a guiding hand to help you get started is just as important. The first few weeks or months can be quite tough going but unlike many personal trainers, Matt Holland Fitness will walk you through everything step by step from start to finish and will make sure you don’t feel uncomfortable in any way & that you’re working out at an intensity that your body can handle. We offer a Home Based Personal Training service where you don’t even have to step foot in a gym to start off with or you can come to our completely private fitness studio located within The Chorley Clinic Sports Injury Centre.
