Matt Holland Fitness are now taking bookings for the four weeks leading upto the race as well as post race treatments. Regular massage treatment during training blocks will greatly improve training levels by getting rid of toxins from the body such as lactic acid which builds up during training. Treatments also improve muscle elasticity and pliability as well as reducing soreness between sessions.
During the Rio Olympics this year you may have noticed big purple bruises appearing on certain athletes bodies! Michael Phelps as well as plenty of other swimmers plus a lot of the gymnasts all had these welts, predominantly on their shoulders and upper backs. These bruises occur as a result of cupping therapy.
Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese form of medicine that was originally used to create an energy flow to a particular area of the body. These days cupping is used in a similar way but to increase blood flow to certain areas such as the all important shoulders for swimmers and gymnasts. There are two different types of cupping therapy, wet and dry cupping. Wet cupping is a medicinal type of cupping.

We firmly believe in prevention over cure so you don’t necessarily have to be injured to have a Sports Massage. Deep Tissue Massage is also available and is used to treat a broader area of the body. This type of treatment is ideal for people who work in desk or car based jobs where the postural muscles are constantly under strain. It is also great for manual workers as well as anyone who wants something a bit deeper than a Swedish Massage.
